The Week That Was

August 18th, 2010

Slightly later than usual blog this week as I have been away in Serbia so have limited information about what’s been happening at WHT.

Plans for the Bank Holiday Beer Festival are well advanced now and all beers and ciders have now been ordered. It promises to be a great weekend, with live music on Sunday, a family day on Monday, as well as BBQ all weekend. Keep checking the website for a full list of beers along with tasting notes.

The British weather has been its unpredictable best making last night at the WHT more like a rain shelter rather than a pub. Plenty of food and drink was consumed keeping everyones spirits up.

For those who are interested Serbia was fantastic, jazz and blues festivals, home cooked traditional Serbian food, Serbian hospitality and a few beers for good measure.

curryThis Monday’s curry is Makhan Chicken.

The dish will be served with Basmati Rice and Naan Bread.

Quiz Update

August 10th, 2010

pub quizThis week sees the return of quiz master Steve, he of the East Midlands accent.

The Bay Window Rollers are going for a hat trick of wins this week, so come on teams give it your best to stop them!

See you Wednesday.

The Week That Was

August 9th, 2010

The School Holiday Slowdown is in effect at the moment with most of St Albans seemingly away on holiday, either that or they are saving themselves for the Beer Festival at the end of the month.

Our quiz teams might be hoping that the Bay Window Rollers go on holiday soon as they won the quiz for the second week in a row, on a tie break again!

This week also saw the start (and finish) of the Great British Beer Festival at Earls Court, London. No less than 300 beers, although my counting got hazy near the end of Tuesday, where available over 5 days. This year’s Champion Beer of Britain Gold Medal was announced on Tuesday and went to Castle Rock’s Harvest Pale Ale, a worthy winner.

The WHT launched its first Cocktail Night on Saturday with 6 different cocktails being mixed right before your eyes. The evening was a relative success and we may do another one soon. Let me know if there are any cocktails you would like to see on the list.

Curry Night

August 8th, 2010

curryThis Monday’s curry, on the 9th August, will be Lamb Shaslik.

Shaslik is originally a Russian dish and means skewered meat. This dish uses Indian spicing then the meat is skewered and grilled on the skewer.

The Lamb will be served over a bed of spiced rice.

Photo Competition Reminder

August 2nd, 2010

Just a quick reminder about the photograph competition we are running.

I am looking for you to send in your photographs, old or new, of you or your friends enjoying yourselves as the WHT. I will judge the winner based on one criteria, how much the photograph epitomises the atmosphere at the Tap.

The winner will get a bottle of house wine (either Red, White or Rose).

Send your pictures to whiteharttap@sky.com before 31st August.

The Week That Was

August 2nd, 2010

Another interesting week at the WHT is behind us.

Despite the weather curry night was again a success with the fish curry getting good reviews.

Wednesday gave us an interesting evening and much to talk about, especially in the evening. The pre quiz entertainment will not be invited back (I’m sure to the relief of those who saw them, those who didn’t ask me next time you’re in).

Friday pay day saw the usual quite night as everyone decides to head for town to spend their hard earned cash. You know who you are and we’ll see you next weekend!

Nothing much to report as I am writing this at the end of the bar on Sunday evening, however you never can tell in this pub.

More next week!
