About

Our Pub

White Hart TapOne of the oldest pubs in St Albans, the White Hart Tap is situated a short walk from the town centre and ten minutes from St Albans mainline station.

We are a friendly local pub which attracts an eclectic mix of people creating a pleasant and fun atmosphere.    In summer the large garden has plenty of space to enjoy a meal from the lunchtime or evening menu.

The range of real ales, European lagers and a good selection of wines ensures there is something for everyone together with various soft drinks.

In the winter the woodburning fire creates a warm and cosy place to enjoy a glass of mulled wine together with the pub cat Paddy who can be seen stretched out in front of it.

We are recommended in the CAMRA Pub Guide and recently won ‘Best Pub in St Albans’ as awarded by the St Albans District Council in 2009.

Our Place

boardroomThe smoking area renamed the ’board room’ where good friendships have been formed and many heated debates held.

Even in the middle of winter many people sit in full ski gear with various hats, scarves and gloves in abundance!

WHT is indeed a very special place, probably the only pub (in the world) where live piano music is played on a sloping ironing board. The landlord seems to have a passion and amazing talent in mastering the most challenging engineering projects.

Went to the WHT for Sunday lunch yesterday and all five of us (some of whom are very picky about eating out) thought it was excellent. Not only was the food delicious – between us, we had the roast beef, roast chicken and lamb cutlets with Dauphinoise potatoes to die for – but the service was personal, efficient and cheerfully given. One member of our party arrived and ordered later than us but all the food arrived at the table at the same time and without a noticeable delay. Despite being busy, the staff also took time to make a friend’s birthday very special. I’ll definitely be taking visitors there again.
And, by the way, the homemade Scotch eggs are fabulous!
